I know this is a strange subject to ask this question, but this is the closest one I could find to match my question. My sister will be getting married in March of next year. I would like to give her a gift card to Victoria's Secret for her wedding gift, but I'm unsure about her feelings on the matter. I would like to ask her if it's all right if I do so, but I don't want to ruin the surprise. Is it wrong to give this sort of gift? I'm not going to give it to her in front of people, as this may embarrass her, but I would like to give it to her. She's not one to have strict rules about this type of thing; However, I just don't know if it would be comfortable for her. What do you think?

Wedding gifts should be for the couple. If the couple has a gift registry you can choose a gift off the registry or select a gift idea of your own, one which can be used by both bride and groom. Lingerie (I know this can technically be enjoyed by the groom but...nah) is a better bridal shower gift. Plus, for your sister, a more personally selected gift, not a gift card, is on order. Half the fun of receiving a gift is seeing what the giver has chosen for us. Typically we reserve the gift card for those we don't know well but to whom we'd still would like to give a gift. Well, she's dropped hints about the fact that she doesn't want anyone to pick out her lingerie for her (the thought hadn't ever crossed my mind) I've already chosen her Bridal Shower gift, but I wanted to give her fiance' a gift card, as well for a sporting goods store. Besides these, I also wanted to give them a $2,000 gift card for furniture and home appliances. Should I just give her both the gift card for Victoria's Secret, and the other gift at her bridal shower, then give him his gift card at another time (Like his birthday) Then give them the gift card for appliances at the wedding?

Gift cards aren't an appropriate shower gift. If she gets a gift she doesn't care for she can certainly exchange or return it. At the shower, there should be a gift to open since that's usually the highlight. What would she say when opening a gift card? Just not a great idea.
Send the couple's wedding gift to the home of the bride before the wedding. The gift card (very generous) would be appropriate or you can choose something off their registry. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

Nah - we've just been in this business a long time and have seen a lot.
Thanks for appreciating what we do. You're a generous sister. I hope your sister appreciates you! Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
