I am having a fall wedding with red and brown as the main colors. I got lucky and I am getting my dress from my friend, and I'm pretty sure it qualifies as a semi formal dress, and the train is chapel length. However, my wedding is going to be on the more casual side for the sake of financial simplicity. My question is, since the wedding itself is more casual, would I be able to get away with wearing red shoes with my dress? For the most part they would be hidden, but they would definitely show during the garter removal and throw (which is also red) I always like to throw in an element of surprise and individuality (I still have a small streak of rebellion from my teen years), but I don't want to be disrespectful to guests who might be more traditional. Would red wedding shoes be offensive? To balance out the red on the lower half, even though it will be hidden most of the time, I want to wear red hair accessories or red jewelry; too much white is boring.

Dear Pixydust,
Red is not a taboo color for brides. In fact, it is becoming more and more common. I say go for it.
But, more and more brides are ditching the garter. Just a thought.

Ok, thanks for your reply. I know red itself isn't taboo, I was just worried that some people might think red SHOES with a white wedding dress would be offensive or something.

Hopefully your wedding guests don't feel this way, as it isn't offensive in the slightest degree. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
