I am having a bridal party consisting of 5 girls. One girl in particular wears very heavy makeup. Especially with respect to really think black eyeliner around her entire eye! I am worried about her makeup the day of. She actually stood up in a friends wedding who thought she had it figured out since she paid for the bridesmaids to have their makeup done for them. But, after this she immediately went and "touched up" her makeup. No one said anything at this point because it was too late.
How do I tell her to ease up on the makeup? The pictures from that wedding looked a little off since she stood out the most because of her heavy makeup.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! The problem you describe is a very delicate subject. There is a huge difference between "Las Vegas Showgirl" type of makeup, "Disco" makeup, "Editorial" or "Fashion" makeup and "Glamour/Beauty" makeup (the last actually applies to the category of "Bridal"). I don't know if there is a way to delicately explain to your friend that your wedding day photos will stay with you forever. The idea of all bridesmaids wearing the same type and color of dress is to create a certain image to your wedding, the precious memories of which will stay with you in photographs. That's why it is advisable for bridesmaids to discuss and agree to the style of makeup that conforms to that particulare image that you are trying to create for your wedding. Perhaps one of your friends or your Maid of Honor could try and talk to your friend, but in a very delicate, non-offensive way. This is a very touchy subject, indeed. At the same time, heavy black eyeliner or smokey eye conforms more to a Disco type of makeup rather than to the image of a bridesmaid. This is precisely the reason I don't use false eyelashes for the bride or bridal party, only individual eyelash extensions: the effect is dramatic, but undetectable: no one will think the eyelashes are fake, as opposed to the false eyelashes where the band is easily detectable and makes them look..well..false! What's good for the cabaret stage is not good for a wedding. Perhaps you can raise the subject during a friendly get-together with all the girls - discuss your hairstyles and then discuss makeup in a friendly manner. Enjoy your wedding!
