I'm having a June wedding and the bridesmaids have opted to wear backless/strapless dresses due to the warm weather. My best friend has very bad cystic acne covering her back, shoulders, chest, and face. I don't want to offend her by asking her to wear a ton of makeup of to wear a shawl. The photographer is a family friend and isn't touching up the photos. I don't want to hurt her feelings or make her feel uncomfortable in the dress but I also don't want people to only see the acne in my pictures. How do I handle this situation?

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. The matter you brought up is a very delicate issue. You don't want to offend or upset your best friend. My question to you is: is he concerned about her skin condition at all? Has she ever expressed any concerns or complaints about her skin condition? If yes, there are some solutions to her problem to be discussed. If, however, this severe cystic acne situation does not bother your friend at all, it would be difficult to bring up the subject of possible remedy. Good luck! You could ask her if the dress suits her or if there is anything she is worried about. If she doesn't bring it up, then it isn't an issue for her. If she is worried about it, then you two can work on a solution together. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
