I have been placed in charge of styling my best friends hair for her wedding. I have one problem - I cannot get the curls she wants to stay in her hair. My friend is Asian (Chinese to be exact) and I can curl her hair, but I cannot get them to stay with out completely plastering her head with hair spray. Then as soon as any of the hair is split apart, the hair spray flakes off and her curls start to fall. I am looking for specific products that may help hold the curl that won't break the bank.

Great question! You have a tough job with Asian hair! It is more about your tools and technique then products. A very hot professional curling iron is the first thing you will need. (sally's beauty or on-line is your best bet.)Small sections are important as well as wrapping it tight and holding it in for a least 10-15 seconds. Hair spray, the section first and then wrap. You should hear the hair spray sizzle. This will make a crisp curl. Spray again right after releasing the curling iron but do not touch the curl until it cools completely. If you want tight curls wrap the hair on the curling iron and over lap the hair as you wrap, covering the curling iron with hair. If you want a wave look leave space on the curling iron bar as you wrap allowing the metal of the curling iron to show between the the hair. Section the hair as you work in horizontal rows. When all the hair is done and completely cool have her flip over and shake them loose and do not use a brush or combs, only fingers. The hair will loosen some, so practice before hand. If she likes fresh springy curls do them at the last possible moment, if she likes them a few hours old then do them earlier. Good luck!!
