I will probably sound like the high maintainence bridesmaid, but next month I will be a bridesmaid for the 7th time! (like they say - always the bridesmaid - never the bride!) Everytime I get my hair styled, I'm always a little disappointed 'cuz it feels so unnatural. I've tried different things (up and half up), but nothing ever feels "right" and for once I'd like to feel my best (considering the cost that goes into it). I have THICK long layered hair and I'm actually pretty petite. I think I prefer the more "messy but elegant" versus the pulled back tight look. I don't know if the bride will have a preference if our hair is up or down. I'm open to both, but if everyone decides to do their hair up. I don't want to be uncoordinated. I do pick out pictures of styles I like, but it never seems to turn out like the picture. Is there some way I should communicate better? I always tell the hairdresser to ultimately do what she thinks is best because I assume she is the professional , but this time I'd really like to feel "pretty" and not feel embarrassed about my hair. (Is it terrible of me to feel this way?)

Please, do yourself a favor and DO NOT tell the hairdresser to do what she thinks is best. Different people have very different tastes. What looks good to one person might not look so good to another. What looks stylish to you might not appeal to the hairdresser's taste, and vice versa. My advice: 1) page through as many magazines as you need to find a couple of styles you really like 2) bring the magazine pages to the salon with you and 3) ask the hairdresser to replicate the style for you. Do not leave the salon until you are totally happy with your hair! Enjoy the wedding! Irina Feygin, IMpeccable iMage, Inc. Image and Beauty and For Princess Bride

Hello!
It sounds like you have great friends, who have chosen you to be a part of their most special day, 7 times, is a great honor! You should be giving us advice! LOL!
Also sounds like you have a head of hair that would make Samson jealous! Most brides are pretty flexible about the hair and makeup style for the bridemaids. Usually the brides let them be the judge of what looks best, and what the bridesmaids are most comfortable with. But you know your friend better than I do. Did she mention anything to the bridesmaids? Also depends on the weather and climate. Its almost impossible to keep long hair down and frizz free on a humid summer wedding. Bring photos to a new hairdresser, if you have been going to the same stylist, and not getting the results you are looking for. Also keep in mind that half of hollywood has hair extensions, and add on pieces for photoshoots and red carpet events. Maybe you want to try some clip on pieces with your next trip to the salon. Perhaps it is also the styling products ,that are not best for your hair type. Is the hairspray too stiff and crunchy, but the hairstyle ok? Take a trip to your local beauty store, and ask their professionals about the best options for your hair type. I personally think the John Frieda frizz Ease hairspray is the best for setting a style, without the heavy, helmut spray feeling.
Look at it this way, when your wedding day is near, you have already had trials for hair and makeup. You know what you like and what looks best on you. One less thing to worry about.
