I have very short, cropped hair that has usually been razor cut (since it's thick). I plan to grow for next 6 months with a trim (non-razor) closer to the wedding. At that point, I just expect my hair to be nicely layered.
I have purchased a lovely headband which looks really darling. I'd like to use curling iron to add wave/volume and keep front part (in front of headband) more slick and straight, parted to the side.
Pictures taken the day I chose my dress don't show a very flattering placement for the veil (done Mom's way), with it middle top of head...I feel like a cream puff. If I want veil lower (as in back of head, near the top) is it best to use only bobby pins to secure or comb...remember - short hair?
I attach some pictures to give better idea. Disregard the "deer in the headlights" look. I was shocked to have found "the dress," and it showed!

You have a couple of options, nice dress by the way!! First, mom is correct about the best placement because the total look needs to be considered, not just what you feel you look like from the neck up. No one will mistake you for a cream puff! The veil placed there balances the width of the gown and balances the total look. The only time I move a veil to the back is with an updo. An updo of hair piled up in front of the veil, behind the headpiece blends the look. I don't think it will look right with short hair. The second option is to get a different style veil. The one you have is designed to come along side of your face. You can pick out a style that is not as wide and will drape over the curve of your head and down your back, eliminating the puff look.
Especially with short hair and for the formality of the ceremony and photos, a beautiful veil will produce a balanced total bridal look.
