Wedding hairstyle suggestions for destination wedding in Jamaica
I've searched and searched for ways to do my hair for my wedding. I am going on a cruise, getting married at a resort in Jamaica so I either need to do it myself or depend on the cruise salon to be able to do it (nervous about that). I either want to wear it half up half down or up. I am not wearing a veil and will either put fresh orchids in my hair or wear a hairpiece but Im leaning more towards the orchids. Here is a picture of my dress (I had it made strapless) and also myself with frizzy hair (it was humid). I have long hair that is easily frizzy and wavy. Please help. =)

Dawn, You have hairdressers dream hair! Perfect wave, not too thick and great color. Don't think of the word frizzy, it is too negative, put your hair in the category of great texture! Just look at Hollywood today, and this is what everyone is trying to emulate! If you have time for a trial run on the cruse before hand do it. Think ahead of words to describe the "feeling" of what you want. Soft, loose, sexy, wavy, beach-y, kind of undone but secure etc. Or half-up but clean looking, smooth, curls, kind of done and formal etc. Do you want it all off your face or some wisps to blow in the tropical winds? This will help the stylist know what you are looking for. I hope this helps! I vote for the orchids myself. If you desire to do it yourself, you will need photos and directions and those you can find on my web site.Best wedding wishes!! Thanks so much for your suggestions. I have ideas but I am so afraid it will not turn out like I want it. I don't want the typical updo that is pulled back so tight I look like I had a facelift. haha. I'm just worried that in the humidity my "texture" will get out of control if I am not careful. I guess I have to look for more ideas and take them in to them and do the trial run as you suggested.

Hi Dawn,
I hear you; I'm not a fan of the tight prom type updos either. Lot's of pictures will be your best bet when communicating to the stylist. For everyday hair, I'm not sure what styling products you use but sometimes even with de-frizzing products, how one works with their hair can be the problem. Here are some steps you can try. If you are going for a wavy look use a shampoo and conditioner for curly hair. Condition and comb out your hair in the shower then gently wrap and blot your wet hair. Avoid rubbing your hair and head with a towel, this will just frizz it up. Shake out your waves with out combing or brushing your wet hair and just let it air dry with out touching it. If you want it straight and decide to blow dry it, you need to dry it completely without leaving any part damp as this moisture will simply evaporate and but sucked up by the dry parts giving you an over all frizz. Try these out on a week end. We get stuck in ruts with our routine and hope a new product will be the trick, but sometime it is how we manipulate our hair.
Best wishes. Gretchen Maurer, Stylist Instructor and Author of The Business of Bridal Beauty.
