Brand name makeup for beach wedding

I was wondering if you have advice on good brands of makeup to buy for a beach wedding and the best colours- I have brown hair and dark brown eyes and I would like a natural look that lasts all day.

Thank you.

Your beach wedding sounds like a dream! I would use browns/gold tones with a bit of highlighting sparkle for the eyeshadow, and the soft bronzy blush that combines several shades in one, for the most natural look. I am not at liberty to recommend specific brands to avoid conflict of interest since I produce my own brand, but I highly recommend one product that originated from Hollywood: "Model-in-a-bottle" makeup setting spray, that will make your makeup stay for up to 12 hours! Yes, even on the beach! Good luck and enjoy your wedding!

Hello Lola,

A gorgeous beach wedding is the dream of many a bride! But you dont want your makeup to be a nightmare. I would recommend to keep the makeup very natural, as the location will be naturally humid, since you are so close to the water, and (hopefully!) sunny. You don't want anything thick and heavy, or too shimmery and shiny. Between the natural mid day light at its strongest and the summer heat, your skin will already have a dewy glow to it, and more so if you have naturally oily skin to begin with.

Prep the skin will skincare for combination or oily skin types.

Use a makeup base that gives a matte finish and absorbs oil. Try LOLA cosmetics, "Refine Shine Primer". This will help the makeup last all day, and not fade away with the heat or become shiny in the photos.

Keep the foundation light and fresh, stay away from liquids which are a disaster in the heat and have a tendency to look slick and require a lot of touch ups. Try one of the new aersol foundation in a can. Sally Hansen and Christian Dior make great ones. You can apply directly in the palm of your hand, and apply with your finger tips for control, or give the face a quick spray, in a zig zag motion, about 8 to 12 inches away from face, with eyes closed.

Follow with a touch of loose powder to set and keep makeup matte and fresh all day. Maybelline makes a great loose powder that controls oil break through. Keep some blotting papers in your purse or give to your MOH to hold for you, incase you need to blot shine later on, but with this combination of products, you should have any at all. Try avoiding more powder, you dont want a thick layer of makeup on the skin. Better to remove oil, than to add a layer of more makeup.

Prep eyelids with an eyeshadow base. I like the eyeshadow primer from Benefit Cosmetics "Lemon Aid", because it brightens eyes and keeps the shadow in place.

I love the "Amazing Cosmetics" eyeshadow collection (color: Suede collection shadow compact) of matte, neutral shadows, in a taupe range. Can be used wet, like a liquid liner, or dry as a shadow and natural brow enhancer, also comes with mini brushes for all of the above, should you not have any to work with. I am afraid to use anything shiny around the eyes, since it usually drops a bit on the cheeks, if your not skilled at applying makeup and will catch in the flash of the photos and bright sunlight. This can be avoided by using a dampened shadow brush and tapping off the brush before applying to the eyes. If you do experience the dreaded shadow drop, have some non oil based eye makeup remover wipes on hand to wipe away mistakes, then apply your favorite concealer, set with a touch of loose powder.

Waterproof eyeliner pencil and mascara are a must. Try "Prestige Cosmetics" waterproof eyeliner in charcoal brown, and Maybelline Volum' Express mascara in black. Trace some of the darkest color shadow, with a dampened brush over the liner, on the top only to enhance the eyes and lock and set the liner in place, before applying mascara.

For a touch of color to the face, I like the Elizabeth Arden, duo bronzer, because the two shades in the compact can be used together or separately. Can be used on the cheeks as well, as a subtle blush color.

For the lips, try Lip Fusion Lip Pluper in Glow, a soft peachy nude.

Definitely try this look in the season close to the wedding date and see how it photographs and holds up for the day.

Good luck!
