Do I have to go to the bachelorette party?

My brother is getting married in September. It is a destination wedding and they are having a large reception when they return home. I am going to the wedding and reception. Now the bachelorette party is a weekend long event out of town.

Here is my dilemma. My husband and I are strapped for cash (we have a newborn baby). We are making the trip for the wedding, getting a hotel room for the reception, getting a babysitter for both events - we can't afford for another weekend long expense for me to go out of town!! My husband is going to the bachelor party - which is a one night event and I am planning a wedding shower for my bro's fiance. The expenses are really adding up fast!! I am also hurt that I am the only sibling not in the wedding - even though me and my brother have been best friends since we were little and I introduced them to each other. Is it wrong if I explain that we can't afford for me to go to the bachelorette party??? I need help!!!

You're not obligated to attend any of these events, including the bachelorette party, so choose the ones you want to attend and decline the others. If asked, you can say you just cannot afford to travel and get sitters for every event.
