     Bridesmaid backed out

One of my bridesmaids (who happens to be my aunt) has backed out of my wedding party, but hasn't told me. She told my cousin that it's too much for her financially. I've asked her about it several times because the deadline to purchase her dress is approaching quickly and she never said it was a problem. I cannot afford to pay for her dress. Should I call her to confirm this information or just let it go? I think it may embarrass her.

Now I have six groomsmen and five bridesmaids. Is it inappropriate to have an uneven number of bridesmaids and groomsmen?

Dear Embarrassed Aunt,

It would be best to discuss this with her and let her know that it is going to be all right with you. Your relationship is so much more important than this.

It is perfectly fine to have an odd number of bridesmaids. If the bridesmaids are walking with the groomsmen during the recession, one would walk with two bridesmaids or one bridesmaid could walk alone. No problem.

Best wishes,
