     Bridesmaid gift

Is it necessary to purchase a "bridal basket" of a sort when asked to be in a friends wedding? One friend of mine asked if I would be a bridesmaid. Another friend she asked is putting together a bridal basket with wedding magazines, lotions, etc. for the bride-to-be. Should I be doing a little gift for this bride to be? Especially since I just got engaged myself, I want to know what the etiquette is. Thanks!

Dear Bridesmaid,

This isn't necessary. This was just something she wanted to do. A wedding gift is expected, but it could be a group gift due to the expense of being an attendant.

Best wishes,
