Bridesmaid's date cannot attend at the late minute
I am a bridesmaid in my best friend's wedding within a week. Two months ago, I RSVP'd that my boyfriend and I were coming. Unfortunately, last week I just found out that I will be receiving a large reduction in pay due to the economy. Her wedding is quite far away and we have to pay for travel, hotel, and boarding both our dogs. My significant other just took a part time job to help with our expenses and now needs to work the weekend of this wedding. By him not coming to the wedding, we would be saving several hundreds of dollars. Is it too rude to explain this to the bride since I already replied that he would be coming? Or, given the circumstances, would it be okay?

Dear Efisher,
No matter what the circumstances, she should understand. Things come up. But, she should be covering your lodging costs. This is obligatory.
