Can I ask my mother to be my maid of honor as well?

I was just wondering if its alright to ask my mother to be my maid of honor even though I am the bride to be ?My best friend lives out of town and may not be able to make it back in time for my wedding. She called and told me there is a emergency in her family and will not be able to attend, My mother and I have always been very close she is like a sister to me and we kinda grew up together since my grandparents helped raise me as well. I heard a maid of honor has to be someone married though is that true? My aunt is also a good idea also but she is a widow. Thanks for the help!!!

Dear Can I ask,

You can have anyone you wish to be your MOH. Your mother is a great choice and she doesn't have to be married. A Matron of Honor is the married term.

Best wishes,

Sure. Why not? You can ask anyone you like.
