Canceled Wedding - should the bride reimburse bridesmaid for the dress
I was asked to be a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding a several months back. The wedding is in a month and a half, and she called today to say that she cancelled the wedding. Is it the bride's responsibility to pay me for the dress (since it is non-returnable or exchangeable)? How is this situation dealt with? Help!

It is not the bride's responsibility but hopefully she will feel morally bound, if she's able. Remember that she may have a lot of emotionall issue with the cancellation of the wedding. If possible, try selling the dress to a consignment shop or on Ebay to offset your cost or even consider asking a seamstress to alter so you might wear the dress to an evening function. After all, you had planned on buying the dress anyway. And, giving your friend one more worry won't help anyone. I agree one hundred percent. And, try to remember that while you are out the money for this dress, she too is out money in terms of her own non-refundable fees, deposits, etc. So, it could be that she might want to but not able. Rhonda Allen, Bridal Consultant New Beginnings Weddings
