Death of Bridesmaid (Sister of Bride)

Perhaps you can assist in the protocol for announcing the bridal party. The Bride's sister was killed in a car accident in Dec 05 and the Bride would like to acknowledge her sister by name in the bridal party as one of the bridesmaids. We looked at in absentia, but that implies she is just absent. Is there a proper wording for this? Thank you for your advice.

Dear Acknowledging,

This wouldn't seem appropriate as she can't be a bridesmaid if she is deceased. The bride could light a candle, offer a moment of silence, or mention her in her program.

Best wishes,

Please read about honoring a deceased loved one during the wedding ceremony.
