How do I tell my friend from my child hood that she is not going to be my maid of honor

How do I tell my friend from my child hood that she is not going to be my maid of honor because of her drinking problem? Do I send her and invite to the wedding? We are asking that everyone has no booze or drugs in them or on them for the saftey of the whole wedding party sinse we are in recovery for these problems.

Dear Very Responsible Bride,

Honesty is best in this case. You are acting very responsibly by keeping everyone sober and creating a sane environment for your celebration. Be honest with her and perhaps she will jump on your sobriety bandwagon. Only send her an invitation if she agrees to your no alcohol, no drug rule.

Congratulations on your recovery.

Best wishes,
