Is it rude for bridesmaid to stay at the same hotel as bride and groom?

A friend of mine will be getting married this January and I am one of three bridesmaids, the only single one. The bride and groom have reserved a block of rooms at a local hotel. Since they live near the wedding site, they will allow a few trusted friends to stay in their apartment that night. They will be staying at a local hotel. I'm not comfortable staying at their apartment since I do not know anyone. There is nothing wrong with the hotel they've reserved for guests, but I would prefer to stay at the nicer hotel in town, which happens to be where the bride and groom will stay as well. It will be a long, although exciting day, and I would enjoy being able to relax and enjoy some quiet time to myself.

I have two questions essentially- Is it considered rude to stay at the same hotel as the couple if they have reserved a block of rooms at another hotel?

Dear Nwbridesmaid,

As long as you want to stay on your own and allow the bride and groom their space, then it is fine. You really can stay anywhere you wish.

The couple is supposed to pay for your lodging. But, if you are not staying where they have chosen for you, then you are on your own.

Best wishes,
