MOH: Best friend vs future sister in law

Here's another MOH dilemma. I'm planning to have both Maid and Matron of Honor in my wedding. My sister, with no doubt, is going to be my Maid of Honor. As for the matron of honor, initially I wanted my bestfriend of 8 years, but I'm now very close to my fiance's older sister. She has been very involved and helpful in my wedding planning, more so than my bestfriend. After my fiance was deployed, his sister has been a great moral support to me. I don't blame my bestfriend because she's been really busy taking care of her newborn baby. I'm just afraid I'd hurt her feelings if I don't pick her to be my matron of honor. So what should I do?

Dear Auriga,

This really is a personal decision that only you can make. There is no guarantee that your best friend won't have hurt feelings if you do not choose her. But, there is something to say about choosing family for these positions. So, that could be a part of the mix. Hopefully she understands.

Best wishes,
