     Maid of Honor vs Bridesmaids

Could someone please tell me what the difference is between a Maid of Honor and a Bridesmaid? I am getting married in May of 2006. I have a 2 female friends that I would consider having in my wedding as bridesmaids. I was going to have my fiance's sister as the maid of honor, but I am not close to her at all. Instead, I would just have her as a bridesmaid. My wedding is going to be small (80 people). What exactly makes the Maid of Honor "better" than a Bridesmaid? My fiance and I are going to take care of ALL of the wedding arrangements. We are paying for everything. We have been together for 8 years so I don't need a Wedding shower (we have lived together for 7.5 years). All I really need is someone to fluff up my dress and hold my bouquet during our wedding ceremony. Could someone please tell me what the Maid of Honor really signifies? Thank you....

Dear Killerbee,

A Maid of Honor is more of a personal attendant. She can help you pick out your dress, helps you dress on the day of the wedding, holds your bouquet, and if you wanted a shower she often hosts it. This is an option though. She is 'there' for you more than the other bridesmaids and she also organizes them. She will tell them what you want.

Often the bridesmaids will help with the little chores of a wedding, such as taste testing for the caterer and stuffing envelopes. The MOH would help with scheduling the ladies for these tasks.

It is helpful to have one in control of the others. It takes the stress of you having to do everything.

Best wishes,
