I have been asked by a friend to be her "Man of Honor" I guess you would call it. What exactly are my duties? I've never heard of this before.

You would be replacing her maid/matron of honor and would serve the bride. Duties of the Maid/Matron of Honor
Usually someone very close to the bride: her sister, a dear friend or relative.
Assists the bride any way she can. Helps with planning the wedding, shopping, addressing invitations, takes charge of recording and displaying wedding gifts.
Lends the bride moral support.
Attends rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.
Pays for her own gown and accessories.
Supervises bridesmaids. Helps prepare them for their wedding day duties and organizes their fittings. Makes sure they arrive at the ceremony on time.
Helps the bride get ready before the ceremony and before departure from the reception.
Holds the groom’s ring during the ceremony until time to pass it to the bride.
Signs the marriage license as a witness.
It is an honor to be asked but not an obligation to accept.

I completely agree. As much as this is considered an honor, and it is, it is also very time consuming and usually expensive. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
