Role and responsibilities of maid of honor

My best friend asked me to be her Maid of Honor which I am thrilled to be. My problem is I have never been in a wedding (and havn't been to one since I was 5!). I know my main duty is to help and support her, but I need to know more about what I do during the cermony and how like: when I walk down the aisle do I take the best man's arm? If I walk alone, how do I walk-step stop step stop or regular slow? Do I sit or stand during the ceremony-where? These may sound like silly questions but I really don't know! Will these questions be answered during the rehersal? I just need a walk through of exactly what I do where when and how. Any info you can give me would be helpful. I don't want to mess up and distract from her day.

Dear Fretting,

Not to worry. All of these issues will be addressed during the rehearsal. Until then, ask your friend what she expects of you. Also, check out a book about your duties. A wonderful book is the Bride's Book of Etiquette. This is very easy to read and only a few years old.

Best wishes,
