Here are the different roles that may be filled in a wedding. However, not every couple needs or wants all of them.
Roles on the Bride's side:
Maid (single) or matron (married) of honor - She assists bride in selecting attire, helps address invitations, witnesses the marriage certificate, holds the groom's ring during the ceremony
Bridesmaids - They attend rehearsal, assist the bride at the reception, participate in wedding-related activities
Junior Bridesmaids - She may attend rehearsal, other than that she has no other role
Flower Girls - They precede bride in processional
Hostesses - They pass out programs, help guests as asked at the Ceremony
Bellringers - He/she rings bell right before bride walks down the aisle in the processional
Roles on the Groom's side:
Best Man - He organizes bachelor party for the groom, helps groomsmen and users to arrive on time for wedding, witnesses marriage certificate, holds bride's ring during the ceremony
Groomsmen - They attend rehearsal, contribute toward gift to groom, lay aisle runner at ceremony, help guests to be seated at ceremony
Ringbearer - He walks down aisle and holds pillow that has rings (not real) during processional
Ushers - They pass out programs, greet guests and escort them to seat before the ceremony, help guests get to reception site
