Should wedding guest wear same color as bridesmaids?

One of my best friends is getting married. She is having a very small wedding w/ a Maid of Honor and 1 Bridesmaid. They are wearing a light blue dress. I have a darker blue dress. My friend told me it is not the same blue nor the same kind of dress. I did not want to wear it since we are close friends and I feel funny, but I cant afford to buy another at the time. Other than this dress I have a black one but it is a day/summer wedding. Would it be inappropriate if I wore blue? The bride told me that I should wear it, but I’m not sure. Thank you!

A wedding guest does not have to match the bridal party with her dress color. If the bride tells you you should wear your blue dress, go for it! And enjoy the wedding!

I agree. As long as your dress doesn't appear to be a bridesmaid's dress, you should be fine.
