I always thought that choosing my bridesmaids would be easy but now that I actually get to do it, I am having trouble deciding who to include without things getting out of control. I know I want my sister and two friends (one from high school and one from college). My fiance wants his sister to be involved which I'm okay with but know we are wondering if his sister-in-law needs to be a bridesmaid along with my step-sister and half-sister that I don't see very often (usually about once or twice a year). What is standard as far as bridesmaids go? What are other options for them if they are not in the wedding party? I could use any advice you have to offer.

Hello Bluemonkeygirl:
There is not rule regarding choosing bridesmaids. Select the people you are closest with; no one MUST be included unless you and your groom agree.
If you'd like to include these other wonen and give them a special role have them handing out the wedding programs, ask them to be a part of the unity candle lighting ceremony, have one or two of these ladies perform a reading, or ask any number of them to be in charge of gifts and seating at the reception.
