Who pays for bridesmaid's dresses when wedding is cancelled?
Unfortunately, the wedding I have been planning with my daughter has now been cancelled.
I have checked etiquette for formal announcements
My question is - the girls have all ordered their dress' - am I obligated to pay for them??

Dear Mommakay:
I'm sorry about your predicament.
Unless you offered to pay for the bridesmaids dresses from the begining, it is typically the responsibility of each bridesmaid to incur the cost of her attire, which incoudes the bridesmaid dress. Have them check with the contract they signed with the bridal shop to see if it's too late in the process to get a refund. They may be able to get out of the contract but lose their deposit but it really depends on store policy.
Personally, if it were my wedding and I was the cancelling party, I would be offering to buy the dresses for the girls if I could.
If they have to go ahead and purchase the dresses, or if your daughteer decides to do this for them, maybe you could all get together and sell tham on Ebay as a whole package...bridal party attire in a box???
