I am an "older" bride of 40 and am getting married at someone's home at the beach. It is pretty informal and we plan to mingle amongst the guests before the "ceremony". The ceremony itself will take place in front of a mantle presided over by a judge. I have a father figure who is going to give me away but logistically I don't know how to do this. For one there is not a lot of space for all of us to stand there and I am not walking up an aisle or anything. And two, we just wanted to keep it simple. There are no other attendants. Should my father figure just stand beside me and give me a kiss?

Dear Bride,
Your ceremony will be so beautiful. I love the simplicity.
One suggestion is that your groom could walk in from one side of the mantle and you and your father figure could walk in from the other. He could kiss your cheek, place your hand in your groom's hand and step away. You only need a couple of feet for this and it will look sweet.

Rather than your "father giving you away" at this stage in life, how about offering your father a huge/kiss/embrace as you begin the wedding ceremony and whisper something sweet and loving in his ear? Annemarie Juhlian, Wedding Officiant & Minister
