gift or buy all of my own bridesmaids stuff or both?

I have been a bridesmaid more that I can count. I have been asked to a bridesmaid once again. Don't get me wrong, it is very much an honor. However, the grand total for dress, shoes and alterations are at a total of $350.00. Not to mention 5 hours away and two nights in a hotel. I am a single person on a buget. I need to know it is proper for me to pay for all? Do I still give a wedding gift or is all that I bought considered "their gift"? My gosh, sending this really makes me feel like a mean person. But I have to know!

Thanks a million! Crazy

Oh, what about the 3 other showers and the gifts for that?

Yes, you are obligated to pay for the dress, alterations, and shoes. You are expected to give them one shower gift (if this is a traditional gift giving event. But, this gift is not supposed to be expensive and may be a shared expense with other attendants. The wedding gift is the same. You are not expected to pay for your lodging for the wedding though. They are obligated for that cost.

3 showers at a time when many are either opting for none or a gift-less shower? That is excessive. There should be no more than 2, besides the work shower. And, these are optional parties.
