Kids in Wedding Party but no others at Reception

I appreciate you taking your time to respond to my inquiry!

I am having a flower girl and ring bearer in the wedding party and they are of course welcome at the reception later (per their parents discretion). However, is it still appropriate to have an adult only reception if the flower girl and ring bearer decide to attend?

Thanks!

Dear Sept. Bride,

It is considered fine, however parents don't always see it that way. Parents are protective of their children and often feel as if their child is slighted if not invited and yet there are other children who are. This is why I always suggest that we shouldn't include children in our weddings if others are not invited.

It is not appropriate to mention that it is 'adult only'. We can only imply it by not listing the children on the envelope. Many parents do not understand and bring their children anyway.

Best wishes,
