Little boys in wedding-not ring bearer

My fiance and I are getting married and would like to have his 2 six year old nephews in the wedding. Traditionally, you would think they would be the ring bearers, but my FH has a 7 year old daughter who really wants to be able to carry the rings down the aisle. Coupled with the fact that we will partake in a family ceremony with her where she will give us our rings and we will give her a ring, you might be able to see why we don't want the boys to be the ring bearers. So, what role can they play? We are having a fairly casual wedding with a tropical theme if that can play a part in what they are doing. I have thought about the bell ringer and that just doesn't have a place in our wedding. Basically I need to know a creative idea for something they can carry or do and what to call them on the program. Thanks in advance for your help.Smile

Dear Mawerts,

You can call them pages and have them hold the train of your dress as you enter.

I did read that somewhere, however I will not be having a train as it is a pretty casual tropical wedding. Thanks for the advice, if there is any more out there I would love to hear it.

Perhaps because this is a tropical theme event, these little ones could give each guest a lei or some other tropical token as they arrive. Or, because of their age and that may be a bit too much for them, perhaps they could give each of you a lei right before your recession as you face your guests.

Thanks, Rebecca, I like the idea of them giving a lei to my FH and me before the recession, any idea of what to call them on the program? Would page boy work, or any other ideas?

I've also seen young boys act as bell ringers to announce the arrival of the bride. Give the boy a silver bell and once the flower girl gets to the altar the boy can proceed down the aisle, ringing his bell, announcing, "The bride is coming, the bride is coming".

Perhaps a Hawaiian word would be perfect. I bet if you seached for one, you would find the perfect name.

This is an informal event, so these names do not have to be traditional. Have fun with it.

Kids are great at parroting, almost better than the parrot. You might consider teaching them how to introduce you in the language of Hawaii. You could also include the wording on your invitations etc. Do a little research and have fun! Here's something to think about....

The 5 vowels a,e,i,o and u as well as the 7 consonants h,k,l,m,n,p, and w make up the entire Hawaiian alphabet. In the Hawaiian language a consonant is always followed by a vowel which also means all Hawaiian words end in a vowel.

Come celebrate the wedding of ___ & ___ :

Hele mei hoohiwahiwa ___ a me ____’s la male’ana

bride: wahine male hou

groom: kahu lio
