Recently, the best man in our wedding got accepted for an internship in Spain, and he leaves on May 7th, while the wedding is on May 12th.
The best man plans to help out with what his duties would have been as much as he can until he leaves, including planning a bachelor party.
My question is, should my fiancee pick a new Best Man from the other 5 groomsmen, or should we make a note or announcement that, sorry, the best man could not make it today? Would it make the new Best man feel like a second choice, and make the other groomsmen feel like they are even further down the list?
Also, should we still get best man a gift, even though he won't be there for the wedding?
Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Re: [Ashleyn716] Best Man cannot make it to wedding

Dear Ashleyn,
This is a personal decision. Either choice would be fine, although choosing among the groomsmen for another best man would probably be my choice. This could be decided by a straw draw so there would be no hurt feelings.
Yes, a gift would be best for your best man as he is performing all of his duties up to the last minute.
