Can a groomsman have dual roles?

My father recently passed away and my sister is getting married next year. my brother is going to be giving her away. Can he also be a groomsman, and stand up in the front with all of us?

Dear J,

There are no 'rules' against it and it could be done seamlessly. He could escort her (no one is given away anymore Wink) and then instead of sitting down, he could walk over to the groom's side. The groom chooses his groomsmen though. So, it should be his decision.

Best wishes,
