Do not want groomsman to feel like after thought

We got engaged in March and by the end of April our party had all been asked.

It is now the end of November and we have an additional groomsman we would like to have in the wedding.

How can we approach him so that he doesn't feel like an after thought?
We will be married October 4, 2008

Dear Moshi,

It seems like the wedding date would be more important as to whether or not he will feel like an after thought. If the wedding is within a few months, but has been planned all this time, it may be more difficult to fold him in without him feeling awkward. But, if you have more time before your event, just be honest with him stating that you really want him to stand with you. Honesty can carry the message best in most cases.

Best wishes,
