My stepson has asked my husband (his father) to be an usher for his wedding. He has also asked his stepfather to usher. Is this acceptable? Who seats the parents if they are ushering? How does my husband decline without offending the bride and groom?

Dear Is it Acceptable,
Typically if a father is asked to be a groomsman, he is asked to be the best man. So, to be asked to be an usher is somewhat of a slight. But, is not unacceptable or improper.
The fathers are not seated in some special order. The mothers of the bride and groom are. Unless you are close to your stepson, more than likely you would be seated in the third row and not in any special order or by a certain usher.
If your husband doesn't want to be involved, I feel that it is best to be very honest about his reasons.
