My boyfriend was asked to be a groomsmen when his best friend of 14 yrs got engaged. A couple of months before the wedding, his friend told him he was now suddenly an usher, and my boyfriend had been replaced by another guy who the groom had been spending more time with recently. It's a slap in the face for my boyfriend, because he considered his friend a brother. The groom then backed out and said he hadn't technically asked him to be a groomsmen (which he had), and when called on it, said, "well you haven't really been there for me during the engagement process". Friends grow apart, but to my boyfriend, there was never any question that they would always be friends. Anyways, he now doesn't want to attend the wedding because he feels like it's a slap in the face-are we obligated to go?

Re: [skwinnit] Kicked out of wedding party

Dear Skwinnit,
It is frightening to think that this person is ready to commit to a marriage, which is in my opinion the ultimate relationship, when could do this to his (nearly) life long friend.
It would be a nice gesture and a positive statement to attend. It would also be proving that your fiance is the bigger man. But, this is a slap in the face and humiliating as well. Since the groom did change the rules, he in essence gave your fiance the room to politely back out.
I can't imagine what your fiance was expected to do "in the engagement process". But, then again, we have so many these days who feel that everything is all about them. It is very unfortunate.
