     Lodging for Best Man's Date

My boyfriend is the best man in a wedding. We both do not have much discretionary income, and he will be spending close to $1000, possibly more, for everything related to this wedding.

In addition, the wedding is out of town so I have spent $360 on the flight alone. The rehearsal dinner is on Thursday, which I will not be able to attend because I will not arrive until Friday. The wedding is on Saturday so of course we will be staying in a hotel after the wedding reception. My boyfriend is staying with the groom prior to the wedding day, and I asked if I could stay with my boyfriend the night before the wedding. I thought this was an appropriate request since my boyfriend is spending a lot of money on other things for the wedding and the fact that we truly do not have a lot of money.

Should the groom have to provide lodging for his Best Man's significant other?

Dear Mansid,

The couple is responsible for providing lodging for their attendants. Your boyfriend has lodging provided for him until the wedding day. He should have had lodging provided for the day after the wedding, which would have included you. But, he isn't obligated to directly pay for your lodging.

Best wishes,
