Should the groom wear the same suit as all the groomsmen?

Should the groom wear the same suit as all the groomsmen?
Suit, not tuxedo. Semi-formal afternoon wedding. Purchased, not rented. Dark gray or black.
If so, how do you differentiate him? With a tux I would say different style of tie. With a suit I just have no idea.

Hello Martini Mike,
Usually he would wear the same suit.
He doesn't have to differentiate himself from the other men, but could wear a different color tie if he wishes.
