     Ushers in addition to groomsmen

My fiance has asked 2 of his friends to be ushers at our wedding. These are in addition to the actual groomsmen he already has.

Is this okay? Unsure

What level of formaility is your wedding? How many attendants you select will be based on formaility.

It is a formal wedding. Seven bridesmaids, seven groomsmen. Bridesmaids will have floor length dresses, groomsmen will be in tuxes. It is in a church at 730pm followed by reception.

For a formal ceremony you can have between four and ten groomsmen/ushers. So, yes, if you are going to have a lot of guests then adding two ushers is expected.

My pleasure. If you're still at the beginning of the planning process, I suggest getting the new Emily post book called, "Etiquette". It's a great help tool (although we certainly don't mind answering your questions here) and can be helpful after the wedding as well. It's a terrific resource for anyone to have.
