Today I ordered a place setting of a young lady's casual china pattern because the china is out of stock with the merchant of her registry. Unfortunately, the china will not arrive before the bridal shower. What is the correct etiquette for attending the shower without the gift even though it will be available within 7 days? Is a handwritten note appropriate?

Re: [jastel] Attending bridal shower without gift in hand

Dear Jastel,
If it were me, I would choose a less expensive item for her shower gift and the china could be her wedding gift. Shower gifts really should be less expensive, even though many do not know this.
For the traditional gifting shower gifts should be opened in the presence of others. But, if you really want this to be your shower gift, the bride will probably understand the delay.
