Children at shower but not wedding

I searched my questions before posting, but couldn't come up with anything. I apologize if this has been addressed before.

My reception will be an evening cocktail affair and children will not be attending. I have given my MOH a list of about 20 people to invite to my shower (all invited to the wedding of courseWink ).

This list consists of the female family members and friends to which I am the closest. My MOH recently asked if I cared if some of the guests brought their daughters to the shower. I told her I did not mind because it would be a much smaller and more casual affair than the wedding and reception.

After I told her this I began to think that maybe I made a mistake. I know it is not proper to invite adults to the shower and not the wedding, but does the same apply to their children? Is it a breech of etiquette to imply that the children are welcome at my shower but not my wedding? I realize these children would not be giving gifts at either event, so it is not as if I am gift grubbing, but I just wonder if this will offend anyone. I really don't know how to properly go about this.

Dear X-Cited,

I'm impressed with your knowledge of proper etiquette!

It is true that only wedding guests may be invited to a shower, but perhaps your MOH wasn't formally inviting them. Perhaps she was asked by a parent if her children could attend the shower with her. If the children aren't formally invited, which means that their names were on the invitation, you are fine. Let's hope this is the case.

If your MOH did invite the children, it may be best for you to speak privately (very gently) to the mothers about the fact that the children won't be invited to the wedding.

Best wishes,
