Gift for shower if not attending the wedding?

My not-very-close friend is getting married but she has invited me to her wedding, shower and bachelorette. I am not attending her wedding or bachelorette but have sent the couple a wedding gift anyway. The shower is the one event I am able to attend. Am I obligated to buy her a shower gift? Please please advise - thanks!

Dear Weddingclueless,

If it is a gift giving shower and you attend, you are expected to give a gift. It shouldn't be as expensive as a wedding gift.

The wedding gift was optional if not attending the wedding.

Hopefully, the bride wasn't the host of her prewedding parties. That is a big no-no.

Best wishes,
