Giving one gift for shower and wedding

A friend of mine is having an Around the Clock shower and I was assigned 7 PM, the dinner/cocktail hour. Most of her registry items are over $60. Is it ok to go ahead and purchase a nicer gift for her shower and use it as a combined wedding and shower gift?

No, you should really buy two separate gifts. Shower gifts are typically less expensive then wedding gifts. She should have registered for a larger variety of items. But, you don't have to buy the shower gift off the gift registry. Go out shopping and select a gift she'll love that suits your budget or ask another guest if they want to go in on a gift with you.
