Groom's family invited to all showers?

I understand that the groom's mother is to be invited to all showers. My thought is that any family members that she would like to have invited do not necessarily have to be invited. If there are certain people that she would like to have there, then she should throw a shower then. Is that correct, in regards to bridal shower etiquette?

Dear Shower Etiquette,

Typically mothers are invited to all showers. However we often have a shower for just one side of the family, whereas the other side wouldn't necessarily be invited.

Neither mother should be involved with the planning or hosting of any shower. So, if she wants someone invited, she could ask the host. But, she cannot be directly involved.

Best wishes,
