Guest Address Envelopes for Shower Thank You Notes

The guests at my sister's wedding shower were given envelopes and asked to write their addresses on them. These were to be used for the Thank You notes. It was mentioned to my sister by a couple of guests that this was "tacky". What is your opinion on this?

Thank you.

P.S. I think it's "tacky" to tell someone you think something at their event was "tacky". What ever happened to "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"?

I agree that it is never polite to point out an indescretion. But, it is considered impolite to asks guests to address their own thank you note. Thye took the time to shop for a gift and attend the party. The bride should be able to take the time to sit down and compose a personal thank you note to each, including addressing each envelope.
