Inviting out of town guests to bridal shower

I have been asked to be the maid of honor for my close friend's wedding and I am thrilled. I want to throw her a beautiful bridal shower, but basically no one involved in the wedding lives where the bride lives, including myself. She lives in Denver, I live in San Francisco, her family is in CT, and her remaining bridesmaids are spread all over the US. To compound the issue, none of the bridesmaids really know each other at all.

I would have no problem traveling to Colorado to host the party, but is it reasonable to plan a wedding shower and expect everyone to travel once for the shower, and then again for the wedding? Are there any easy solutions to this problem that I am not seeing immediately?

Thanks and hope to hear from you :)

Kimberly
