Is it ok to have a jack and jill shower to raise money?
My sister, who is my MOH, called to let me know that the bridesmaids finally emailed her and asked her what the plans were for the jack and jill shower, but also told her the groom was going to have a separate golf tournament for the guys to raise money as well. I don't think its right to have this golf tournament to raise money as well as a J&J because that would be double dipping, but is it okay if he has this golf tournament for the guys and my sister does a bridal shower and invites the ladies?

Dear Prhodes,
I realize that in some parts of Canada it has been common to host parties to raise money for a couple when they are marrying. But, it isn't polite or appropriate and becoming more so even in the areas where it was common. We never ask our guests to open their wallets. And, cash isn't an appropriate gift for a shower. In fact, more and more couples are opting for the gift-less shower because of the double gifting (wedding and shower). Why should couples receive two gifts from some guests? It doesn't make sense. Actually, why should guests pay cash to a couple because they wish to marry? Hum.
