If the MOB is invited to a small shower in another state, is she expected to attend, esp if it is given by daughter's future in-laws? It is a women only shower and would stay for only the day. Daughter would be staying with the family for a week. Etiquette and cost is a concern.

Dear Kitten,
It's unfortunate the inlaws weren't too concerned with etiquette, as they shouldn't be hosting unless also a bridesmaid. But, you are not obligated to attend an out of town event. You are also not obligated to send a gift.
