Mother wants to host bridal shower

I know that MOB and relatives should not host bridal shower. However, my daughter is having a small wedding (relatives and two close friends only). Her only attendant will be a good male friend. (Groom's attendant will be his sister.) I would like to help plan a shower with one of her aunts. Would this be okay?

Dear Silverado,

Nope. Sorry. Only those invited to the wedding may be invited to a shower. With so few guests, it would seem as if the couple wants two gifts from each guest. Plus, you two still shouldn't be hosting. It would still seem as if you are trying to garner the most gifts possible for your daughter.

If you wish to host something, perhaps it could be a reception after the wedding. This is not considered a gift giving event, although many still give one.

Best wishes,
