     Multiple Shower Invitees Gifts

My future mother in law hosted a shower for me in June (i'm getting married in late November 2005) and invited some of my friends and family, as well as her own. My matron and maid of honor are throwing a shower in Sept for me and we want to invite some of the same people. We would like to include a note in the invitation that says that just their being there to celebrate with me is all that is needed, no gift is requested (because they already gifted at the last shower). How do I word that? Should I put any note in those invitations to people who were invited to the last shower but didn't come or send a gift?

Dear Showered,

It would be improper for you to be involved in any way in the planning or implementing of your shower. So, this note could be written by one of the hosts. The note is an excellent idea because people other than mothers and attendants shouldn't be invited to more than one shower.

The note could be worded very simply, such as: Your presence is precious to us, so we would love for you to attend this additional shower. Please do not feel obligated to give a gift.

Now for a mother to host a shower... it is already too late for you, so this message is for others. If you are considering this, please do not. It is considered self-serving for either mother to host a shower. Family often tries, well-meaningly, to garner many gifts for family. It can become ugly :)

It is very considerate to mention to these guests that you do not expect gifts.

Best wishes,
