Plans for Vegas and reception at home-a month later
We are going to Vegas to get married but will be having a reception a month later. Some people are coming to Vegas and paying for themselves but I'm sure that some of my family will not want to do this. I'm inviting probably 130 people to the reception. Question is if someone throws me a shower (I'm 35 but it's my first marriage and his 2nd) is it ok to invite everyone that is invited to the reception? I was thinking that the money that the people are putting out to go to Vegas to see us getting married is enough. I own my house and my fiance moved in with me about 2 years ago. I'm confused about this.

Dear Plans,
Not really. I realize that some are tweeking the rules for destination weddings, but that is still a no-no. We only invite guests to showers who are invited to the wedding.
However, there is a nice custom that many are using these days. After you are married, the family could host somewhat of a tea to introduce you as a new bride, your groom as your new husband, or the two of you as the married couple. This can be in addition to a reception. Albeit, this is usually hosted for couples who live a great distance from the rest of the family.
